Notes: Two still lifes by Metzinger titled La tranche de melon and La bouteille de chianti sold at Hôtel Drouot on 26 March 1928, one for 7,860 francs, and the other for 6,000 francs. More research is required to determine if a third work by Metzinger was auctioned at the sale, or if Carafe, couteau et livre was the second of the above mentioned works. A third possibility is that this work was simply not mentioned is the sale results shown in Le Figaro on Tuesday 27 March 1928, p. 4.
