Notes: Jan Segaar (J. W. Nieuwenhuizen Segaar, Nova Spectra, The Hague), in a letter dated 28 March 1992, addressed to Galerie Hopkins-Thomas, states this work was acquired directly from Léonce Rosenberg, along with two other by Metzinger.

The Sotheby’s catalogue,11 November 1999, states the provenance as:

Léonce Rosenberg; Mrs. Metzinger; Private collection (acquired from Mrs. Metzinger); and by descent to the present owner; respectively.

The former would seem credible, since Metzinger exhibited extensively at Kunsthandel G.J Nieuwenhuizen Segaar, The Hague, throughout the 1930s.
