Notes: The 1947 version of Du Cubism in which this sketch was reproduced was printed as a limited edition consisting of 455 numbered examples. In addition to the text published in the 1912 editions, this version was reissued with an introduction by Gleizes and an afterword by Metzinger.
The 1947 edition includes 11 prints by Gleizes, Metzinger, Pablo Picasso, Fernand Léger, Marie Laurencin, Juan Gris, Marcel Duchamp, André Derain, Georges Braque, Jacques Villon, and Francis Picabia. According to the Fundación Juan March, “there are six etchings, three drypoints and two aquatints, which, although prepared during the 1920s, were not printed and published until 1947.”
This work is, in all likelihood, a study for the head of Femme à sa Toilette (1918), oil on canvas, 92 x 60 cm (AM-18-014).
