Exposició d’Art Cubista, Galeries Dalmau, Barcelona, 20 April – 10 May 1912 (no. 44). During this show—the first exhibition of Cubism in Spain, and the first exhibition world-wide dedicated solely to Cubism—Metzinger’s painting became one of the preferred targets of the press.

Nya Konstgalleriet (The New Art Gallery), 1 – 15 April 1917, founded by the Italian Futurist Arturo Ciacelli in Stockholm. Nya Konstgalleriet was one of the three main galleries in Sweden responsible for promoting national and international modernism between 1915 and 1925.

Notes:  At the second exhibition of Société Normande de Peinture Moderne, Apollinaire gave a conference, evoking the Fourth Dimension for the first time: Louis Vauxcelles described his speech as ‘incendiary words’:

“Défense et illustration de la langue cubique

D’un ton de voix placide, et avec un visage d’une angélique bonhomie, M. Guillaume Apollinaire a proféré hier des paroles incendiaires : entendez par là qu’il a fait une conférence destinée à convaincre l’Europe que la peinture de l’avenir sera cubiste ou qu’elle ne sera pas.

M. Apollinaire a dépensé à soutenir cette finèse étrange un talent distingué, Il a parlé de l’espace, de la quatrième dimension, de Nietzsche et des oreiles d’Ariane, en termes élogieux.

Il a été vigoureusement applaudi.

M. Apollinaire s’est appliqué à démontrer qu’on ne connaît pas dans l’histoire de l’art de mystifications collectives. Peut-être. Mais il y a, hélas, des exemples de niaiserie contagieuse.” (Louis Vauxcelles, Gil Blas, 26 November 1911, p. 2).
