Notes: Reviewing the 1908 Indépendants, Charles Morice, in an article published in Mercure de France, 16 April 1908, groups three artists together who exhibit the same tendency; a form of art to which his eyes are not yet accustomed: “let them listen to nature more docilely, and very quickly they will regroup and renew themselves. I hope it is not too late to give the same advice to Derain, Metzinger, Braque, whose simplifications are disconcerting.”
